Dear Sun Xue,
We are very glad to receive your letter commenting on too much violence in TV programs and films. Now I am writing back on behalf of the Evening paper to express our sincere gratitude to you.
Your letter has drawn our attention to the problem of media programs. We think it extremely important that the public should be alarmed to it as well. Therefore, we would like to have your letter published next week in our paper, followed by an editorial, which, I am sure, will arouse attention from common people as well as the program makers concerned.
Again we would like to express our appreciation to your consideration and we are looking forward to your letters in future.
Yours truly,
Li Ming

But there is an increasing demand for people who全国硕士研究生入学考试英语(二)真题第 1 页,共 4 页2are able to take in great area at a glance, people who perhaps do not know too much about any one field. There is, inother words, a demand for people who are capable of seeing the forest rather than the trees, of making generaljudgments. We can call these people “generalists.” And these “generalists” are particularly needed for positions inadministration, where it is their job to see that other people do the work, where they have to plan for other people, toorganize other peoples work, to begin it and judge it.The specialist understands one field; his concern is with technique and tools. He is a “trained” man; and hiseducational background is properly technical or professional. The generalist and especially the administrator deals with people; his concern is with leadership, with planning, and with direction giving. He is an “educated” man;and the humanities are his strongest foundation. Very rarely is a specialist capable of being an administrator. Andvery rarely is a good generalist also a good specialist in particular field. Any organization needs both kinds of people, though different organizations need them in different proportions. It is your task to find out, during your trainingperiod, into which of the two kinds of jobs you fit, and to plan your career accordingly.Your first job may turn out to be the right job for you - but this is pure accident. Certainly you should notchange jobs constantly or people will become suspicious of your ability to hold any job. At the same time you mustnot look upon the first job as the final job; it is primarily a training job, an opportunity to understand yourself and yourfitness for being an employee.11. A woman’s career, particularly if it is successful, is often blamed for the break-up of a marriage, but never a man’s.
You should writ 160—200 words neatly on ANSWER SHEET 2. (20 points)
参考范文
A self-evident prejudice is made clear by the given saying that a woman’s career, particularly if it is successful, is often blamed for the break-up of a marriage, but never a man’s. Those who support the saying attribute the break-up of a marriage to the successful career of the wife. In their eyes, a successful woman devoted to her career will certainly neglect her duties to her husband, her children and thus results in the break-up of the family. This accusation is unfair and absolutely unacceptable.
The prejudice lies in the fact that it has been branded in our mind that women should be inferior to men and they should be at home to foster children and to support their husband. In fact, women should be entitled the rights to have their own careers. They have the rights to get the satisfaction from work besides that from their families. This accusation ignores the fact that the responsibilities for break-up of a marriage should be taken by both parties instead of one. Cleary, to blame a carrer woman for the break-up of a marriage is groundless.
As a conclusion, what has been traditionally taken for granted in our mind should be replaced by more rational ideas. From now on, it should be prescribed in our mind as law of various nations that everyone is born equal and they should be on equal terms.
I was very disappointed not to be able to go to the jazz concert last Friday. The advertisement in the paper said that you could buy tickets at the theatre box in Richland Hills any day between 10:00 and 4:00. Since I work from 9:00 to 5:30, the only time I could go to the theatre was during my 45-minute lunch break. Unfortunately, the theatre is on the other side of the town, and the bus service between my office and Richland Hills is not very good. But if you are lucky you can make the round trip in 45 minutes. Last Monday, I stood at the bus stop for fifteen minutes waiting for the bus. By the time I saw one come around the comer, there was not enough time left to make the trip. So I gave up and went back to the office. The same thing happened on Tuesday, and again the next day. On Thursday, my luck changed. I got on a bus right away and arrived at the theatre in exactly twenty minutes. When I got there, however, I found a long line of people at the box office. I heard one man say he had been waiting in line for over an hour. Realizing I would not have enough time to wait in line, I caught the next bus and headed back across the town. By Friday I realized my only hope was to make the trip by taxi, it was expensive, but I felt it would be worth it to hear the concert. The trip by taxi only took 10 minutes, but it felt like an hour to me. When I got to the theatre, I was relieved to see that nobody was waiting in line. The reason, however, I quickly discovered, was that they had already sold all the tickets.
